What’s your advice for a first time buyer?

The rule of thumb for trying cannabis for the first time (or for the first time in a long time) is to “go low, and go slow.” This advice is especially important in the case of edibles or concentrates. Everyone reacts a little differently to cannabis, especially considering the many different strains and types of products, so you’ll want to consume less than you think you’ll need until you have a better idea of how cannabis affects you.

Using Edibles for the first time

Edibles are an attractive option for novice cannabis users– especially since they’re dosed at generally manageable 10mg servings and don’t involve smoke– though it’s important to keep in mind that the effect of edibles is more pronounced than inhalation methods, and it can take an hour or two to feel the effects of a solid edible (liquid edibles kick in much faster). If you choose to experiment with edibles for your first time, start with a single 10mg serving, wait up to 2 hours to see how it affects you, then in the future you can decide if you’d prefer more or less than a 10mg serving. Historically, the moment a user says, “this edible doesn’t work” is when it hits them all at once, so please proceed with caution.

Smoking weed for the first time

If you want to smoke, then prerolls (joints) are a very easy way to get started without having to buy any sort of paraphernalia other than a lighter. We’d recommend that you take 2 or 3 puffs of a preroll, then put it out and wait 10-15 minutes before you decide to inhale any more.

If you purchase cannabis flower (buds), you’ll need a pipe to smoke it out of (and ideally an herb grinder as well, but you can break the buds with your fingers or a pair of scissors too), and we’d once again suggest that you don’t exceed 3 puffs then waiting 10-15 minutes before evaluating if you’d like to smoke some more.

Vaping for the first time

Another inhalable option that doesn’t involve buying any paraphernalia is to try a disposable vape. Bear in mind that these vapes are made from concentrates (usually distillate or live resin) so while they are more flavorful and don’t taste or smell like smoke, they are more potent than smoking cannabis flower. Take 1 or 2 puffs from a disposable vape and wait 10 minutes before you decide to inhale any more. It’s worth noting that the onset of distillate is very potent but the effect dissipates rapidly compared to live resin or flower.
